LTO revokes license of truck driver in fatal QC road crash

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) on Thursday revoked the license of the truck driver involved in a fatal road accident on Batasan-San Mateo Road in Quezon City last May 28.

LTO Chief Vigor Mendoza II said they came to the decision after the driver tested positive in the mandatory drug test.

“Aside from the revocation, the truck driver was also perpetually disqualified from being granted a driver’s license,” Mendoza said.

“This should serve as a stern warning that the use of illegal drugs and even drunk driving will never be tolerated and will be faced with serious consequences. Let us be reminded that the granting of a driver’s license is a privilege that can be revoked at any time once a person defies all the expectations for him to be a responsible and disciplined driver,” he added.

The truck driver claimed that the vehicle lost its brakes while traveling along the Batasan-San Mateo Road in Barangay Batasan. He lost control of the steering wheel, which led to the trailer falling on the center island and the truck ramming several motor vehicles.

The driver tested negative during the test conducted to determine if he was drunk, but the drug test yielded positive for the use of shabu.

Mendoza said Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon has instructed that there will be no second chance for drivers found using illegal drugs: “We are zero tolerance here.”
