The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has imposed a 90-day preventive suspension on the license of a truck driver involved in a multiple-vehicle collision that killed three people and injured seven others.
LTO chief Vigor Mendoza II said the Isuzu tractor head (JAG-8962) has been placed on alarm while the investigation is ongoing. The suspension and vehicle alarm were outlined in a show-cause order (SCO) issued to the truck’s registered owner and driver.
“On behalf of the LTO, I extend my deepest sympathies to the victims’ families. We will focus our efforts to ensure justice is served,” Mendoza said.
The SCO also directs the truck owner to explain why no penalty should be imposed for hiring a reckless driver, while the driver must respond to charges of reckless driving and being an improper person to operate a motor vehicle.
Initial findings show the incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. on May 28 along Batasan-San Mateo Road in Barangay Batasan Hills, Quezon City. A brake failure caused the truck to lose control, detaching its container, which fell into the center aisle near a gasoline station.
