The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has reminded the public that the election gun ban remains in effect until June 11, 2025, and that Comelec checkpoints are still in place to prevent criminal activity.
Comelec chair George Garcia issued the warning after several individuals were caught carrying firearms shortly after the May 12 midterm elections.
Under the Comelec resolution, it is illegal to bear, carry, or transport firearms or deadly weapons in public places — including streets, parks, buildings, and vehicles — regardless of having a license, unless a written exemption from Comelec has been granted.
“We are reminding the public that the gun ban is still in effect. It runs until 30 days after Election Day, or June 11,” Garcia said.
He warned that individuals caught carrying firearms without proper exemption will be held liable, and emphasized that no one should attempt to do so during the remainder of the election period, which spans from January 12 to June 11, 2025.
