The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) said Friday it sent back to their country of origin some 19,499 non-compliant rubber inner tubes for motorcycles, valued at about P500,000.
The inner tubes, meant for motorcycle tires, failed independent tensile strength and elongation tests, falling short of the minimum requirements set by the Philippine National Standard (PNS).
“We take this work seriously because safety is non-negotiable for the millions of Filipinos who depend on motorcycles for work, school, and livelihood,” DTI Secretary Cristina Roque said.
“In line with the Bagong Pilipinas vision, our goal is not to shut down businesses but to support those that comply with regulations and invest in quality,” said Roque.
Mandatory standards serve as the country’s benchmark for the safety and quality of rubber inner tubes for pneumatic tires.
