Mariah Carey, the best-selling female artist in history with over 200 million records sold worldwide, has released “Type Dangerous,” the lead single from her highly anticipated 16th studio album—her first new project since 2017.
Produced alongside N.W.I. and Daniel Moore, “Type Dangerous” incorporates a sample from Eric B. & Rakim’s 1986 hip-hop classic “Eric B is President,” fusing Carey’s soaring vocals with a vintage rap beat.
“I’m so excited to finally be releasing ‘Type Dangerous’ into the world!” Carey said. “I’ve been working nonstop in the studio on this new music, and I can’t wait for my fans to hear what we’ve created.”

A companion music video, helmed by frequent collaborator Joseph Kahn—director of Carey’s “#Beautiful” and “All I Want for Christmas Is You”—will follow in the coming days. The pair’s recent holiday-themed “It’s Time” video amassed millions of views in November.
This release comes just in time for Mariah’s upcoming acceptance of the BET Ultimate Icon Award on Monday, June 9, celebrating her status as one of the greatest pop artists of all time. Mariah will also be performing live in just over a week, taking the stage as headliner at Capital’s Summertime Ball on Sunday, June 15, at Wembley Stadium.
