HBO Max drops ‘Harry Potter’ TV series cast

Streaming platform HBO Max announced on Tuesday, May 27, the lead cast for the upcoming TV adaptation of fantasy film “Harry Potter.”

The cast is led by Dominic McLaughlin who will play Harry Potter, with Arabella Stanton to portray Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout taking the role of Ron Weasley, according to a report from “Variety.”

The casting follows a global search in which more than 30,000 young actors auditioned for the roles.

“After an extraordinary search led by casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann, we are delighted to announce we have found our Harry, Hermione, and Ron,” showrunner Francesca Gardiner and executive producer and director Mark Mylod said in a statement.

“The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen,” they added.

The series, a reboot of the original film franchise based on J.K. Rowling’s best-selling books, will begin filming this summer. A release date has not yet been announced.
