Chris Evans, Dakota Fanning’s ‘Push’ resurfaces on Lionsgate Play

Push, a 2009 sci-fi thriller starring Chris Evans and Dakota Fanning, is drawing renewed attention as it begins streaming on Lionsgate Play starting May 23 through PLDT Home and Smart.

Directed by Paul McGuigan (Wicker Park, Lucky Number Slevin), the film follows a group of individuals with psychic abilities who are pursued by a covert government agency. Evans plays Nick Gant, a telekinetic fugitive forced to protect a young clairvoyant, Cassie (Fanning), while searching for Kira (Camilla Belle), a woman with mind-control powers and links to Nick’s past.

Set in Hong Kong, Push builds a world in which people are classified by psychic abilities such as Movers (telekinesis), Pushers (mind control), and Watchers (clairvoyance). The U.S. Division, a secretive government unit, seeks to exploit these powers for military purposes.

Despite its ensemble cast and a narrative centered on psychic warfare and rebellion, Push received modest attention upon its original release. Competing with larger franchise films and lacking a major promotional campaign, the movie gained a cult following over the years for its grounded approach to the superhero genre and noir-influenced tone.

Evans’ portrayal of Nick offers a contrast to his later role as Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In Push, he plays a reluctant protagonist navigating a world of betrayal and danger.

The film also features performances by Djimon Hounsou and Ming-Na Wen.

Push now streams on Lionsgate Play via PLDT Home and Smart.
