‘Open Endings’ brings queer women’s stories to Cinemalaya 2025

A queer women-led story is set to take the spotlight at Cinemalaya 2025 with Open Endings, starring Jasmine Curtis-Smith and Klea Pineda.

Directed by Nigel Santos, the film follows the lives of four queer women—exes turned best friends—whose bond is tested when one of them makes a life-changing decision.

The cast also includes Janella Salvador and singer Leanne Mamonong of the OPM duo Leanne & Naara.

Curtis-Smith shared her excitement about the film on social media, while Pineda, who came out as a proud lesbian in 2023, marks her first major film role since doing so.

The film highlights themes of identity, friendship, and chosen family—rarely explored through a queer Filipino lens in mainstream cinema.

Open Endings is one of the official entries to this year’s Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival, which runs in August.

Known for spotlighting stories from the margins, the festival continues to provide a space for diverse voices in Philippine filmmaking.
