Parañaque City councilor Jomari Yllana and the team principal of Yllana Racing called for stronger government and public action on road safety ahead of the upcoming Jom’s Cup drag racing event.
Speaking during a May 5 interview on Radyo 630 Teleradyo Serbisyo, Yllana emphasized the need for stricter measures to protect pedestrians and motorists amid a recent rise in road accidents.
“Stricter measures must be put in place to safeguard pedestrians and motorists alike,” Yllana said.
The Jom’s Cup, a 1/8 mile drag racing challenge featuring vintage cars, muscle cars, and supercars, will take place on May 31 at the seaside boardwalk of Okada Manila. The event is part of the Okada Motorsport Carnivale 2025, which began on May 4 at the hotel-casino complex in Parañaque City.
The opening round featured 127 drivers competing in the Super Sprint slalom series, drawing over 700 spectators. Later that evening, 365 vintage cars dating back to the 1960s gathered for the “Legends of the ’90s” car meet, attracting an estimated crowd of more than 1,000.
Yllana, a seasoned actor and racing enthusiast, assured participants that safety is a top priority.
“All the races are designed to be safe. We conduct briefings before the races and take care of everyone who will join,” he said.
The Motorsport Carnivale is presented by Yllana Racing with Okada Manila as major sponsor and Makina Watches as official timekeeper. The event features participation from FIA international race official Rikki Dy-Liacco and members of the motorsport community.
