Celebrity endorsements in the Philippines have long been a powerful tool in shaping voter behavior. With their large followings and trusted public images, celebrities can sway opinions, particularly in the high-stakes environment of an election.
Among the most influential figures in local entertainment is Vice Ganda, a comedian, television host, and social media powerhouse. And his endorsement of Attorney Benhur Abalos, former head of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), and the Angkas Party-list has caught the attention of many, especially the younger generations.

Online, Vice’s fans are loyal and deeply engaged, making his words and actions significant. If his endorsement drives a large portion of his millions of followers to the polls, it could play a crucial role in the success of the political figures he supports.
Vice Ganda’s influence lies in his ability to align with causes that connect with his audience. His vocal support for Abalos and the Angkas Party-list demonstrates his commitment to issues like transportation reform, which matter to his followers. If Vice uses his platform to stress Abalos’ leadership and the change Angkas represents, his endorsement could lead to a surge in votes, especially in urban areas where his fanbase is strongest.
“Vice is one of the biggest stars in the country, but that’s not why we approached her. She’s intelligent, socially aware, and vocal about current issues. We’ve had many conversations, and we share the same advocacy,” Angkas CEO George Royeca noted.

The party-list’s first nominee believes that the TV host understands the struggles of workers without traditional employment benefits—an issue Angkasangga aims to address through legislative changes.
“Vice belongs to this sector. As a performer and freelance artist, she understands what it means to work without the guarantees salaried workers enjoy,” he added.
Meanwhile, Abalos expressed his gratitude for Vice Ganda’s unexpected yet impactful support. In a media event held yesterday, he shared, “Nabigla ako when Vice Ganda made that video. Close to 17 million views. Maraming salamat, very catchy. Thirty seconds lang yun pero nakakuha ng ganong attention. Kusang loob siyang nag-endorso so sobrang salamat.”
Vice Ganda undoubtedly has a powerful online presence, but can his celebrity truly sway voters? We’ll find out when the ballots are counted next week.
