CEBU City—The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has directed governor-elect Pam Baricuatro to answer charges of alleged electoral irregularity lodged by her opponent, outgoing Gov. Gwen Garcia.
Baricuatro was given five days starting June 16 to give her side of the story.
In a statement, lawyer Edmund Lao, head of Baricuatro’s Transition Team said they are ready to reply to the accusations and seek dismissal of the complaint for lack of merit.
“Baricuatro also opted for the formation of her own legal team which seeks the dismissal of what is clearly an unwarranted and unfounded case so that the Transition team can focus on ensuring that the matters on preparing the incoming administration will not be hampered,” the statement read.
Garcia filed on June 3 an electoral protest before the Comelec contesting the results of over 4,000 clustered precincts across the province.
Garcia claimed that her camp discovered “technical and software evidence’’ indicating that some of her votes have been mistakenly credited to Baricuatro.
