All winning bets proclaimed in Negros Occidental, Bacolod City

BACOLOD CITY – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has formally proclaimed all winning candidates in Negros Occidental and Bacolod City, following the May 12 national and local polls.

Lawyer Josil Macute, Assistant Regional Director of Comelec–Negros Island Region, confirmed that the Provincial Board of Canvassers concluded its work on Tuesday, May 14, with the proclamation of all victorious candidates.

Macute praised the elections as “relatively peaceful,” pointing out that no major election-related violence was recorded across the province, except for a shooting incident in Silay City.

He also lauded the high voter turnout, saying more Negrenses cast their votes despite scorching weather conditions.

Comelec data showed an 83.22% voter turnout, with 1,369,632 out of 1,645,715 registered voters in Negros Occidental participating in the elections.

Among those proclaimed winners were:

·         Governor Eugenio Lacson (re-elected)

·         Vice Governor Joeben Alonso

·         Greg Gasataya, Mayor of Bacolod City

·         Kalaw Fuentevella, Vice Mayor

·         Albee Benitez, Representative

The elected members of Bacolod City Council include:

·         Caesar Distrito

·         Israel Salanga

·         Em Ang

·         Thaddy Sayson

·         Jason Villarosa

·         Celia Flor

·         Dindo Ramos

·         Bobby Rojas

·         Wilson Gamboa, Jr.

·         Pao Sy

·         Homer Bais

·         Al Victor Espino

The smooth conduct of the elections, along with strong voter participation, reflects what Macute described as a “commendable display of civic responsibility” among Negrenses.
