President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. said on Saturday that the country needs the senatorial candidates of Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas to help turn the government’s vision into reality.
In a vlog posted on his official Facebook page, President Marcos emphasized the importance of the Alyansa slate’s programs, citing their commitment to improving the lives of Filipinos.
“We have heard their advocacies, suggestions, and plans to improve the lives of every Filipino,” Mr. Marcos said.
“Now, more than ever, we need their help to accelerate and facilitate the realization of our aspirations,” he added.
Mr. Marcos, joined by Alyansa candidate and former Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos, also answered questions about several issues affecting the public, including inflation, hunger, government corruption, road safety, and traffic management.
Marcos assured the public that his administration is working tirelessly to lower the prices of basic commodities.
Abalos, for his part, emphasized the need to reduce electricity rates and to promote renewable energy as a way to further ease inflation.
They also acknowledged that mass public transport is essential to addressing the persistent problem of traffic congestion and improving road safety.
“We have had incidents in recent days that are truly unfortunate, and many of them can only be solved by one thing: discipline,” Marcos said.
“For me, in big cities, there is only one solution—public transport. There must be many trains, many buses, and sufficient public utility vehicles so that workers can commute to and from their jobs without needing to bring their own cars. The bottom line is public transport,” he added.
Mr. Marcos and Abalos stressed the importance of addressing hunger to improve quality of life.
To combat corruption, Abalos pledged to push for legislation that would institutionalize the digitalization of all government services.
“We can do it. We will support this with legislation in the Senate to make it even stronger,” Abalos said.
Mr. Marcos also expressed his willingness to listen to individuals or groups who oppose current government policies, in order to come up with better alternatives.
He emphasized that the victory of the Alyansa slate in the midterm elections is crucial to sustaining the progress made during his administration.
