The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) on Tuesday reported that 871 New People’s Army (NPA) members and supporters were “neutralized” from January 1 to June 12 this year.
In military parlance, “neutralized” refers to the surrender, arrest, or death of enemy forces as a result of government action.
AFP spokesperson Col. Francel Margareth Padilla disclosed during a media briefing at Camp Aguinaldo that the said figure includes 776 surrenders, 44 arrests, and 51 fatalities resulting from military operations.
During the same period, government forces recovered or received a total of 490 firearms and 257 anti-personnel mines (APMs). Additionally, 80 NPA encampments were seized.
“The numbers do not lie, and neither does our resolve. With hundreds neutralized and dozens of camps dismantled, the enemy’s grip is loosening because our presence is tightening,” Padilla said.
The AFP also reported neutralizing 112 members and supporters of local terrorist groups (LTGs) during this timeframe. This figure comprises 103 surrenders, two arrests, and seven fatalities in military operations.
Additionally, 123 LTG firearms and five APMs were seized or surrendered, along with the capture of five LTG encampments.
