Detained former Negros Oriental Rep. Arnolfo ‘Arnie’ Teves, Jr. is suffering from an ailment and it has worsened, according to his legal counsel Ferdinand Topacio, without revealing the official diagnosis of his client.
The former lawmaker was taken to hospital on Tuesday morning after complaining of severe stomach pain.
“I’m trying to get permission for a new bulletin on his condition… I need to talk to the doctors first due to doctor-patient privilege. All I can tell you at this point is that the illness has taken a turn for the worse,” Topacio told reporters.
Teves has undergone treatment at the emergency room ward, where he was administered painkillers to ease the pain, while further tests were conducted to determine the cause of his ailment.
At around 6 o’clock in the morning, Topacio disclosed that Teves was rushed to the nearest public hospital per advice of the roving physician from the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP).
Meanwhile, he confirmed that the in-house nurse provided medical intervention last night until the symptoms worsened earlier today.
A personnel from the BJMP could not immediately grant his request to be brought to a hospital for treatment, he added.
In a short video clip shared to media outlets by Topacio, an ambulance with Teves inside was seen taking the businessman-politician to an undisclosed hospital.
Teves was recommended to be transferred to St. Luke’s Medical Center, Bonifacio Global City and is set to undergo major surgery, according to Topacio.
