Manila Rep. Joel Chua, a member of the House prosecution panel, appealed Friday for ‘political neutrality’ from some senators who have openly expressed continued alliance with Vice President Sara Duterte even as they already pledged as judges in her impeachment trial.
Chua’s message was addressed to Senators Robinhood Padilla and Imee Marcos, who joined the vice president in her trip to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia this week to meet with the Filipino community and mark the 127th Philippine Independence Day abroad.
The Senate, acting as impeachment court, has already issued summons to Duterte who is given 10 days to respond.
The prosecution team on Wednesday said it would seek clarification from the Senate on how they could comply with its requirements after it remanded the articles of impeachment back to the House of Representatives.
Chua leads the House committee on good government and public accountability, which investigated Duterte on allegations of corruption linked to her unexplained use of confidential funds, among other issues.
