DMW vows continued support for OFWs

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) on Saturday assured overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) of the government’s continued support as the country marked the 30th Migrant Workers’ Day.

“We are here to support those dreams in far-off lands and seas… the whole nation and the government is here with you all the way,” DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac said in a statement, emphasizing a rights-based approach in the agency’s programs for OFWs.

Cacdac said the Marcos administration has strengthened efforts against illegal recruitment and bolstered partnerships with host countries to better protect OFWs. The DMW also continues to extend welfare services through the AKSYON Fund and reintegration programs.

This year’s celebration includes the groundbreaking of the new DMW Central Office, a joint circular establishing the National Reintegration Network, and a memorandum of understanding with the Commission on Human Rights (CHR).

In a separate statement, the CHR stressed the need for “deliberate and sustained efforts” to improve the quality of life of OFWs and their families, including access to legal aid, protection, and reintegration support.
