The International Criminal Court (ICC) prosecutors have submitted additional evidence in the case against former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte.
Deputy Prosecutor Mame Mandiaye Niang confirmed the submission in an ICC notice dated June 4.
Niang said that on May 30, 2025, the Prosecution shared 129 items with the Defense. These items were organized into specific thematic categories.
The evidence packages include ‘contextual elements’ in ‘modes of liability,’ ‘barangay clearance operations,’ and ‘background information’ on cases that fall under murder as crimes against humanity during the Duterte presidency.
The ICC Pre-Trial Chamber 1 previously set a deadline of July 1, 2025, for the Prosecution to submit all evidence intended for the hearing on the confirmation of charges against the former president.
The hearing is scheduled on September 23, 2025. Any evidence submitted after this deadline will not be considered.
Duterte is currently held at the Scheveningen Prison following his arrest on March 12, 2025.
He was transported to The Hague to face charges of crimes against humanity linked to his administration’s violent war on drugs, which allegedly resulted in at least 6,000 documented deaths.
Human rights organizations estimate the true death toll to exceed 20,000.
