Marcos inspects NAIA, cites plans for expansion

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. inspected the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on Tuesday, noting improvements in passenger flow and facilities, particularly for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), and affirmed the ongoing modernization and expansion projects.

Speaking to reporters after the site visit, the president said the inspection was part of the government’s efforts to personally assess proposals for new airport development aimed at easing congestion and improving services for both domestic and international travelers.

“The reason why we made this inspection is because we are assessing a new project for our airport here in Manila,” Mr. Marcos said.

“The goal is to speed up the movement of travelers, especially our OFWs,” he added.

The president emphasized the importance of first-hand observation in evaluating the airport’s progress.

“I said the best way is to go and look for myself,” the president said.

“And I can say that many improvements have already been made,” he added.

President Marcos highlighted enhancements in facilities, particularly those catering to OFWs, and pointed out improvements in immigration procedures, which have historically drawn criticism for delays and inefficiency.

“We looked at the immigration system to identify what more can be improved,” he said.

The president also acknowledged positive feedback from passengers, particularly during the Christmas season, when many Filipinos travel abroad or return home.

“I’ve been hearing feedback, especially after Christmas, that there have really been improvements at the airport,” he noted.

“And I wanted to see it for myself,” the president added.

In addition to the current upgrades, President Marcos said he was briefed by the chairman of the NAIA management on continuing plans to expand the airport’s capacity.

These plans include processing more travelers and tourists to support the country’s economic recovery and tourism sector.

“This is not just about what we’ve already done,” Mr. Marcos said.

“There are plans to further expand the airport so we can accommodate more passengers,” he added.
