Immigration operatives arrested a South Korean fugitive wanted by authorities in Seoul for kidnapping and beating a compatriot five years ago.
The fugitive, identified as Jang Seongwoong, was arrested on May 22 in Pasay City by members of the BI’s fugitive search unit (FSU).
The Korean fugitive has been on the BI’s wanted list since 2021 when he was ordered deported by the bureau’s board of commissioners for being an undesirable alien.
“He was thus arrested on the strength of a deportation warrant which was issued pursuant to the said deportation order. He was included in our blacklist which perpetually bans him from re-entering the country,” Immigration Chief Joel Anthony Viado said.
A check of his travel record showed that the Korean had been hiding here since he last arrived as a tourist on May 1, 2017.
According to BI-FSU acting chief Rendel Ryan Sy, Jang is also subject of a red notice from the Interpol that was issued in July 2019. The Korean is now detained at the BI detention facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City while awaiting deportation.
