The Makati City police urged the public to exercise caution and responsibility when reporting crimes in the community to prevent unnecessary panic among residents.
“Let us prioritize facts over fear,” stated Police Station Commander Col. Jean Ibarra Dela Torre.
She recounted that around 11:53 a.m. on May 25, he and other police officers visited an establishment in Salcedo Village to meet with its manager and verify claims regarding a “rampant hold-up riding in tandem” situation in the area.
“This visit followed a review of official crime records by the Makati City Police, which confirmed that no robbery incidents have been reported in Salcedo Village from January 2025 to the present,” she explained.
Dela Torre emphasized that the police force maintains constant and active coordination with various security providers throughout Makati to ensure a unified and informed response to any incidents.
“This collaboration allows us to coordinate proactive measures aimed at preventing crime, thus fostering a safer and more secure Makati City for everyone.”
She added that, as part of its mission to promote public order, the Makati Police is considering taking appropriate legal action against the individual who made the false report.
This, she noted, “may have caused undue public anxiety and negatively impacted the credibility of various government institutions, contrary to the law.”
“While the Makati CPS supports the right of individuals and establishments to voice concerns about safety, such statements must be based on facts and aligned with official data to avoid spreading misinformation,” Dela Torre remarked.
She encourages responsible and coordinated communication to ensure that the public receives accurate and constructive information at all times.
“The Makati CPS remains open to dialogue and coordination with all stakeholders. The safety of our communities is a shared responsibility, and the PNP continues to work diligently to protect all residents and businesses in the city.”
