Residents across Metro Manila felt the ground shake around lunch time on Tuesday, May 25, which lasted a few seconds after an earthquake struck General Nakar in Quezon Province.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) initially measured the tectonic tremor at magnitude-5.1, but later on revised it to magnitude-4.6.
Phivolcs said the quake hit at 12:17 p.m. at a depth of six kilometers. It was attributed to the shifting of the earth’s plates along fault lines.
Phivolcs director Teresito Bacolcol said damage and aftershocks are expected from this event.
Intensity 4 was felt in Makati City, Manila and Marikina City; Laguna’s San Pedro City, and Rizal’s Tanay.
Intensity 3 was experienced in Navotas City, Quezon City, Pasay City, San Juan City and Taguig City; Bulacan’s Guiguinto and Malolos City; Nueva Ecija’s Palayan City; Pampanga’s Mabalacat City and Angeles City, and Laguna’s Biñan City.
Intensity 2 was felt in the NCR’s Caloocan City, Mandaluyong City, Parañaque City and Valenzuela City; Bulacan’s Obando, and Nueva Ecija’s Cabiao.
