SILG Remulla: Marcos already has someone in mind as next PNP Chief

It is only a matter of time before the next chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) is announced, as President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. already has someone in mind to succeed outgoing PNP Chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil, according to Interior Secretary Juanito Victor ‘Jonvic’ Remulla.

In a press briefing at Camp Karingal on Monday, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) chief said he already talked to President Marcos about the upcoming leadership change for the PNP.

“We have talked. He (President Marcos) has someone in mind. But let’s wait for his announcement,” Remulla told reporters.

While the name of the next top cop has not been disclosed, Remulla described the choice as highly capable and experienced. “Excellent choice—very qualified, very dynamic, good track record. He’s okay,” he said.

Marbil is set to retire on June 7 following a four-month extension of service.

Remulla emphasized the importance of having a longer term for the incoming PNP chief to promote leadership continuity within the national police force.

Among those reportedly in the running are:

·         PNP Deputy Chief for Administration Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr.

·         PNP Chief for Operations Lt. Gen. Robert Rodriguez

·         PNP Chief of the Directorial Staff Lt. Gen. Edgar Allan Okubo

·         NCRPO Regional Director Major Gen. Anthony Aberin

·         CIDG Director Major Gen. Nicolas Torre III

The official announcement from Malacañang is expected within the next two weeks, according to Remulla.
