VP Sara urges discipline this Land Transportation Safety month

Vice President Sara Duterte reminded Filipinos, in line with the observance of Land Transportation Safety Month, to strictly follow road safety laws and prioritize discipline to ensure everyone’s safety on the road.

“Let us obey traffic laws. Use designated pedestrian lanes. Avoid using cellphone while driving or walking and immediately report road hazards. Simple discipline, big contribution to safety,” Duterte said in a video statement delivered in Tagalog on Monday.

“In the private sector, ensure that drivers receive adequate training. Keep vehicles in good condition. And take safety policies seriously. It’s not just your employees you’re protecting—but everyone on the road,” she added.

In the past week, major road accidents have raised concerns over traffic safety. Earlier, a Pangasinan Solid North Transit bus crashed into multiple vehicles along the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX).

More than 37 people were involved in the accident. Ten individuals, including four children, were killed, while others injured in the multi-vehicle collision.

Over the weekend, an SUV crashed at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1, leaving two people dead and three others injured.

Duterte also underscored the role of the government and called on authorities to ensure the safety of infrastructure, strictly enforce traffic laws, and promote public awareness on road safety.

“This Land Transportation Safety Month, let’s work together for safer and smoother journeys for everyone,” she added.
