The Philippine National Police (PNP) has deployed a total of 59,631 personnel to ensure public safety amid ongoing protest actions by several groups for the May 1 Labor Day celebration.
This is according to PNP Spokesperson and concurrent Central Luzon Regional Director Brigadier General Jean Fajardo. She said the deployment of cops in strategic locations aims to maintain peace and order in conjunction with the expected rallies of labor groups.
Fajardo said that the focus of their deployment will be the areas where strikes will take place. She explained that although they have not received any serious threats regarding Labor Day, the police will remain alert.
Various militant groups led by the Kilusang Mayo Uno are expected to hold nationwide demonstrations to call for a P1,200 living wage, an end to contractualization, among other labor-related concerns.
