Sam Verzosa honors father, family in final leg of campaign

For businessman-politician Sam Verzosa, the road to public service begins with personal purpose, not political ambition.

At his final campaign rally held under a bridge in Pandacan on May 9, the Manila mayoral hopeful delivered a heartfelt message dedicated to the people who stood by him from the start of his campaign journey—his family, and most of all, his late father.

“Kung nabubuhay pa ‘yung tatay ko, siguro magiging super proud siya. Siya ‘yung campaign manager ko sa langit,” Verzosa said.

Unlike traditional “miting de avance” gatherings staged in wide plazas or arenas, Verzosa’s choice of venue—a bridge in the heart of a working-class community—underscored his message of sincerity and grounded service.

It also became the perfect stage for a tribute steeped in personal memory.

Verzosa acknowledged the quiet but crucial work they did behind the scenes—walking door to door, sharing his message, and reminding people not of promises but of commitment.

“Ang kasama ko lang po, ako, ‘yung pamilya ko. Bawat house-to-house, hindi ‘to luto, hindi ‘to speech, testimonial ito,” he said.

Throughout his address, Verzosa emphasized that his campaign wasn’t driven by political machinery or party alliances. Instead, it was fueled by what he described as “galing sa puso”—a core value he credits to his upbringing and the example set by his father.

The rally brought together supporters from various sectors—senior citizens, PWDs, drivers, and vendors—all groups Verzosa said he hoped to uplift through programs rooted in access and compassion.

“Sana kung hindi ko kayo napuntahan, ‘wag kayong magtampo. Alam n’yo po, binigay ko lahat. Gusto ko lang iparamdam ‘yung sinserong malasakit,” Verzosa said.
