CEBU CITY— Cebu governor-elect Pam Baricuatro will formally take her oath as leader of the province on June 30, 2025 with the provincial government now making all the necessary preparations for her official inauguration.
According to Cebu Provincial Information Officer (PIO) and spokesperson Ruben Licera, Baricuatro gave instructions to observe strict austerity measures during the ceremony.
“Gov. Pam has made it clear, this event should reflect the values of humility, unity, and service—not extravagance. She instructed the committee to avoid unnecessary expenses and instead channel our energy and resources toward a meaningful, community-driven celebration,” Licera said.
Instead of flashy productions or grand banquets, the June 30 event shall highlight volunteer-led performances and civic showcases. It will have simple but dignified staging, using government-owned or donated resources, and feature local artists and community musicians who agreed to perform without talent fees.
Modest decorations sourced from local cooperatives will be used, Licera said, noting that Baricuatro wants to send a clear message that public service comes first before political spectacle at her inauguration.
“The celebration is not just about taking office—it’s a tribute to the shared sacrifice, effort, and faith of every Cebuano who helped make this victory possible,” Licera said.
Paulo Uy, chairperson of the Inauguration Committee, confirmed that all volunteer groups behind the People’s Thanksgiving agreed to hold the event immediately following the inauguration ceremony.
“We have coordinated with all volunteer groups, and they are fully aligned—we will celebrate together on June 30, right after the formal oath-taking,” Uy said.
Security, traffic advisories, and health protocols will be released soon in coordination with concerned organizations. The provincial government plans to hold an oathtaking event, interfaith thanksgiving, and a street party on June 30.
Baricuatro gained over one million votes to rule Cebu, unseating seasoned rival Gwendolyn Garcia. The incoming governor ran a grassroots campaign utilizing digital to district-level outreach activities.
Invitations have already been prepared for Vice President Sara Duterte, Senator Imee Marcos, and other national and regional leaders. Organizers report strong interest from these figures to participate in what is being dubbed a “moment of people’s triumph.”
