Quake strikes Leyte; 31 injured—NDRRMC

A magnitude-5.8 earthquake struck San Francisco, Southern Leyte on January 23, injuring 31 people and damaging over 300 houses, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

The NDRRMC reported that six houses were completely destroyed, while 342 others sustained partial damage. While no fatalities or missing persons were reported, the agency is still verifying the number of injured individuals.

The 7:39 a.m. Thursday earthquake, originating 6 kilometers off the coast of San Francisco at a depth of 11 kilometers, also affected infrastructure. However, the NDRRMC confirmed that two roads and a bridge damaged by the quake are now passable.
