The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has set bold targets for the retail and wholesale sector, targeting to generate 12.5 million jobs and raising industry value to P15.1 trillion by 2034.
“We are launching Section G, a concrete action plan to generate employment support, businesses, and future-proof one of our economy’s most dynamic sectors – Section G. Section G is the heartbeat of our everyday life, connecting producers to consumers and creating jobs in every community. Millions of Filipinos rely on it for their livelihoods, from sari-sari stores to massive logistics facilities,” said DTI Secretary Ma. Cristina Roque during the launch.
Under Section G: Job Blueprint for Wholesale & Retail Trade, the DTI projects employment to rise from 10.2 million in 2024 to 12.5 million in a decade, while wholesale and retail value is expected to more than triple from P4.9 trillion to P15.1 trillion.
The roadmap, developed in collaboration with the Philippine Retailers Association (PRA) and the Supply Chain Management Association of the Philippines (SCMAP), also seeks to enhance labor productivity to 120 percent of the national average and raise the sector’s contribution to GDP from 18.4 percent to 19.8 percent by 2034.
