Okada Manila donates 20,000 meals in observance of World Hunger Day

In observance of World Hunger Day, Forbes 5-Star resort Okada Manila reaffirmed its commitment to sustainability and social impact by donating 20,000 nutritious meals to underserved communities across Metro Manila.

The initiative is part of its ongoing partnership with Scholars of Sustenance (SOS) Philippines, supporting the global push for Zero Hunger and Zero Food Waste by 2030.

Launched in May 2024, the program makes Okada Manila the first integrated resort in the country to conduct large-scale food rescue, recovering surplus food from Medley Buffet and banquet operations and redistributing it to those in need.

To date, the resort has served 20,000 meals, rescued 5,000 kilograms of food, supported 12 communities, and prevented 12,000 kilograms of carbon emissions.

Under the Okada Green Heart program’s waste management pillar, the beneficiaries include Project Pearls Tondo, Hospicio de San Jose, Rivaras Community Pantry, Betterworld Tondo, and other groups across Metro Manila, Parañaque, Rizal, Laguna, and Marikina.

“Food should never go to waste, especially when hunger remains a global crisis. By integrating surplus food donation into our operations, we reduce waste while helping those who need it most,” said Okada Manila’s culinary director Josef Teuschler.
