The Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc. (CAMPI) asked the government to enact a law that will institutionalize support for the local automotive industry to ensure policy stability and long-term investment security.
CAMPI president Rommel Gutierrez said that while the Department of Trade and Industry’s new auto incentives program, Revitalizing the Automotive Industry for Competitiveness Enhancement (RACE), is a step in the right direction, the industry needs something more permanent.
“We want a law that will support local vehicles. The CARS program worked because there were commitments on both sides, the government and the private sector, and it was performance-based. But it was just an executive order. To encourage long-term investments, we need legislation,” Gutierrez said on the sidelines of the 30th anniversary of CAMPI held May 29, 2025 at Bonifacio Global City.
The RACE Program, which replaces the Comprehensive Automotive Resurgence Strategy (CARS), provides up to P3 billion in incentives each to three carmakers that commit to producing a minimum of 100,000 internal combustion engine vehicles within a three-year period.
