Malayan Colleges Laguna (Mapúa MCL) has partnered with ACEN Renewable Energy Solutions (ACEN RES) to transition its entire campus in Cabuyao, Laguna into 100 percent renewable energy.
The shift was implemented under the Department of Energy’s Green Energy Option Program (GEOP), which allows qualified consumers to choose their renewable energy provider.
With this collaboration, Mapúa MCL will reduce its carbon emissions by approximately 91 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent each month.
“Mapúa MCL is not only dedicated to providing quality education but is also committed to safeguarding the future of its students by embracing sustainability through this transition to renewable energy,” said Sheila Mina, vice president and head of account management at ACEN RES, and an alumna of Mapúa University.
Mapúa MCL president and chief executive officer Dr. Dodjie S. Maestrecampo said the transition partnership reflects the school’s long-term vision for environmental responsibility.
“Mapúa Malayan Colleges Laguna has always been at the forefront of innovation and progress. This partnership with ACEN RES and our shift to 100 percent renewable energy reflects our unwavering commitment to environmental stewardship and our responsibility to future generations,” said Maestrecampo.
“It aligns with our targeted Sustainable Development Goals, specifically SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy, SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, SDG 13: Climate Action, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.”
Mapúa MCL now has over 7,800 students as of academic year 2024-2025. It offers programs in architecture, aviation, engineering, computer science, IT, arts, business, accountancy, hotel & restaurant management, health sciences, and senior high school.
The school is a member of iPeople Organization, a Yuchengco-Ayala Education partnership.
ACEN RES is the retail electricity supply arm of ACEN Corp., the Ayala group’s listed energy platform.
