The Department of Transportation (DOTr) said Monday a portion of Skyway Stage 3 will be toll-free during the reconstruction of Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA), as the elevated toll road is considered the best alternative to the major thoroughfare.
DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon told a press briefing that making part of Skyway Stage 3 toll-free is a key intervention to manage the expected heavy traffic during the upcoming EDSA rehabilitation.
Dizon said the free toll would only apply to a specific section of Skyway Stage 3 and would begin once the EDSA reconstruction is in “full blast.”
“Maybe the Skyway toll-free towards July or August,” Dizon said, adding that the government needs approval from the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) and would compensate San Miguel Corp., builder of Skyway 3, for lost revenue.
