Crypto firm Bitget delivers satellite internet to remote islands

Cryptocurrency exchange and Web3 company Bitget launched its Starlink Program to deliver high-speed satellite internet to remote islands in the Philippines, marking a significant step toward addressing long-standing connectivity challenges.

“Without stable internet, entire communities are locked out of modern education, remote work, and even basic services like telemedicine. This isn’t just about connectivity, it’s about equity. Internet access shouldn’t be a privilege, it’s the foundation for everything from education to decentralized finance. We’re building doors to the digital world one island at a time,” said Bitget chief operating officer Vugar Usi Zade.

The program’s pilot sites include Siargao’s Espoir School of Life and Barangay Pitogo, where limited internet access has hindered education, healthcare, and economic opportunities.

By installing Starlink’s advanced satellite technology, Bitget aims to provide reliable internet that will transform how these communities connect with the digital world.

Espoir and Barangay Pitogo public school will benefit from six months of high-speed internet access, enabling online learning, teacher training, and digital governance tools through the initial phase of hardware installation.

Bitget plans to complement the program with $10 million each for its Blockchain 4 Youth and Blockchain 4 Her initiatives, which aim to build blockchain literacy among students and women-led cooperatives.

The cryptocurrency company invested P155,400 to cover hardware, subscriptions, and logistics, a modest expense with the potential for transformative impact.

Bitget’s approach highlights a growing recognition in the crypto space that adoption begins with access.

Future expansion could extend the program to neighboring islands, in collaboration with local NGOs and government units.

The Starlink kits are set to go live this May, promising immediate improvements for students and residents alike.
