State engineers from the National Electrification Administration (NEA) have readied electric cooperatives (ECs) and their power distribution lines for the May 12 national and local elections.
NEA Engineering Department manager Federico Villar Jr. told the Department of Energy (DOE) this week that the rural electrification sector had inspected and conducted preventative maintenance on all substations across EC service areas nationwide.
Actions taken ahead of the midterm polls include line clearing, replacement and repair of critical power transmission and distribution system components, and inspection of electric facilities connected to voting and canvassing centers.
Villar, the overall chairperson of the NEA Task Force Election (TFE), said these efforts aligned with DOE directives and its Task Force on Energy Resilience to ensure stable and reliable power supply throughout the election period.
He said contingency measures were in place should ECs face challenges such as grid inefficiency, transmission breakdown, or disasters. In such cases, power restoration at polling stations and other election facilities would be prioritized, he said.
