The Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the government of Japan on Friday launched a new tunnel boring machine for a section of the Metro Manila Subway Project (MMSP) from East Ave. to Ortigas in Quezon City.
DOTr Undersecretary Jeremy Regino and Minister for Economic Affairs of the Embassy of Japan Nihei Daisuke led the launching of CP103 tunnel boring machine (TBM).
The project is being implemented under the government of Japan’s official development assistance (ODA) through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
CP103 is a 6.5-kilometer section from East Avenue Station to Ortigas Station, which is being constructed by Sumitomo Mitsui Construction Co., Ltd. Tunneling will begin at Camp Aguinaldo Station, the mid-point of the section.
Nihei said “the government of Japan takes great pride in supporting the Metro Manila Subway Project and is fully committed to our common goal of improving the quality of life of the Filipino people through quality infrastructure.”
He said Japan, through its ODA, would continue to strongly support major railway projects in the Philippines such as the Metro Manila and the North-South Commuter Railway.
