CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga—Three persons were arrested by lawmen following a raid on an illegal slaughterhouse at Barangay Pritil, Guiginto, Bulacan, where dead hogs were brought and cut into “customers’ choice” before being distributed to different markets in nearby Metro Manila.
The slaughterhouse, police said is one of the sources of double-dead meat being delivered to markets in Bulacan and Metro Manila.
BGen. Valeriano De Leon, director Central Luzon PNP, identified the suspects as Richard Merez, 40; Nida Plamenco, 40; and Renz Angelo Merez, 18, all from Bgy. Dulong Malabon, Pulilan, Bulacan.
He said the suspects were caught by the raiding team in the act of butchering hog meat.
De Leon added that members of Guiguinto police were earlier tipped-off by residents in the community on illegal activities by occupants of the slaughterhouse.
Armed with a search warrant issued by a local court in Bulacan, De Leon said the raiding team barged inside the slaughterhouse compound where they found dead hogs on the floor ready to be butchered.
One suspect identified as alias Jaypee eluded arrest after he scaled the concrete fence and jumped out of the compound.
Lawmen discovered undetermined weights of butchered hogs stockpiled inside the slaughterhouse during the search.
Policemen also found several kilos of dead meat loaded in a customized delivery motorcycle known as “Kulong-kulong.”
The suspects and seized items were brought to Guiguinto police station for further investigation while the double-dead meat will be disposed by the Provincial Office of the Bureau of Animal Industry.
De Leon said violation of Republic Act 10611 also known as An Act of Food Safety 2013 is being readied against the suspects.
