Heavy rains flood Zambo City, over 4,000 evacuated

MORE than 4,000 people or 1000 families were displaced due to heavy rains that flooded in Zamboanga City in Zamboanga del Sur, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

In its latest report, the NDRRMC said at least 772 families, equivalent to 3028 persons, were evacuated to eight temporary shelters in the city.

Power supply in the area was tentatively cut off for security reasons.

Meanwhile, the City Social Welfare and Development Office extended relief assistance to the affected families.

The Zamboanga City disaster office was placed on blue alert status since Friday amid the precipitations.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation in the 98 barangays of the city, with response teams on standby for immediate deployment if exigency arose.
