Actress Iza Calzado opened up about her late entry into motherhood at the Watsons Mom & Baby Wonderland held May 8 at the SM Mall of Asia, sharing how giving birth at 40 changed the way she sees life and love.
Speaking candidly before fellow moms and families at the event, Calzado reflected on the emotional shift that happened when she held her daughter for the first time.

“When I held him, I said, I understood everything—what I’m looking for in my life,” she said. “Everything made so much sense.”
The 42-year-old actress, known for her openness about personal struggles, admitted that her path to motherhood came after a long journey—and that the timing, though different from many others, gave her a deeper appreciation of what it means to love.
“Maybe because I was already 40 when he came into my life, and I went through a lot,” she said. “It has made me more loving towards other people as well.”
Calzado also made a point to recognize that not all moms feel that same connection right away.
“I also acknowledge that not all moms feel that way,” she said.
“Don’t feel pressured if you don’t have that immediate and simultaneous connection with your child.”
The actress’s remarks stood out during the program for their honesty and personal reflection, offering a perspective on motherhood that isn’t always openly discussed.
Rather than focusing on ideals or expectations, Calzado emphasized the importance of allowing different experiences to unfold naturally.
For her, becoming a mother later in life brought a broader emotional awareness that continues to shape how she connects with others.
