Maroons vow to bounce back stronger vs. Archers in Game 3

UNIVERSITY of the Philippines seeks to bounce back stronger when they clash with the defending champion La Salle Green Archers at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday in a winner-take-all Game 3 of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines’ best-of-three finals at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Coach Goldwin Monteverde said they have fallen short when the Fighting Maroons fell in a 75-76 loss to the Green Archers in Game 2 of the Season 87 Finals on Wednesday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.

“But then, if you fall short siyempre and definitely with this loss, matututo kaming lahat. We’ll come back stronger on Sunday,” said Monteverde.

Most Valuable Player Kevin Quiambao fueled the Green Archers with nine rebounds and 22 points, including 11 points in the fourth quarter.

Green Archers’ coach Topex Robinson said the team is keeping their hopes high with their renewed chance to retain the crown.

“I’m just holding to our faith. If it’s given to us, it’s gonna be given to us. But we’re just holding on to each other,” said Robinson.

The Fighting Maroons are on their fourth consecutive winner-take-all finals’ match-up, a familiar scenario that they have encountered since losing the crown to Ateneo in 2021 and their title conquest in 2022 to the Blue Eagles.

This was also the same setup they encountered last year with the Green Archers.

“Alam namin na hindi pa naman tapos ang series. Alam namin na you know, we just have to keep our heads up. Pag-usapan, mag-prepare, planuhin just to get ready on Sunday,” said Monteverde.
