Pongbayog in Tokyo!!!!

Reflections, the solo exhibition of Florante Bayog “Pongbayog” Paghari-on, concluded at YOD Gallery and Editions in the upscale Jingumae district of Shibuya, Tokyo. The show was a resounding success for the 43-year-old, South Cotabato-born, self-taught artist whose relentless dedication to his craft has solidified his reputation as one of the most bankable contemporary artists in the Philippines. This sold-out Tokyo exhibit follows the momentum of his well received solo show at Art Moments Jakarta last year.

The opening was well attended by both invited guests and walk-in visitors. Among the notable attendees were Malaysian collector Angeline Chin, Focus Art Fair curator Eriko Ozaki, Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs official Makoto Kawaii, renowned billionaire and art collector Kazuo Okada , Maki Imaizumi, Filipino-Japanese artist Taichi Condo. The Philippine Embassy in Japan was represented by Commercial Counsellor Dita Angara-Mathay. Guests were warmly welcomed by DF Art Agency Managing Director Derek Flores, YOD Gallery owner Ryotaro Ishigami, and the artist himself, Pongbayog.

It was reported that three international collectors acquired works from the exhibit, including an American couple vacationing in Tokyo who were captivated by the compelling pieces on display.

This successful show is yet another testament to what Filipino artists can achieve when given the platform and opportunity. With proper exposure, they can not only stand alongside but shine among the best in the global art scene.
