Former jiu jitsu world champ Ochoa to get Lifetime Achievement Award

MULTI-TITLED jiu jitsu master Meggie Ochoa will be bestowed a lifetime achievement award by the Women in Sports Awards, an award-giving body by the Philippine Sports Commission in collaboration with Philippine Commission on Women.

PSC commissioner Olivia Coo said Ochoa’s global achievement in the martial art sport of jiu jitsu deserves recognition after she recently announced her retirement from active competition.

“She’s just retired and it’s really fitting for her to be honored with the lifetime achievement award,” said Coo.

The former world and Asian champion will focus on her coaching chores with the Philippine  national team.

The selection committee and Coo were unanimous in handing the honor to Ochoa.

Coo, a Hall of Fame bowling legend in charge of women sports in the PSC, will hold the bigger, better 2nd Women in Sports Awards on March 15 at the Philippine International Convention Center.

More than a hundred women athletes, who excelled in various sports will be honored during the awards night.

Outstanding womenn sports executives and coaches will also recognized, according to Coo.

She said the list of nominees will be sent out to National Sports Associations.

NSAs and the public are also welcomed to submit nominations.
