InnerVoices returns with new vocalist, fresh tracks in digital debut

’90s pop band InnerVoices has introduced Patrick Marcelino as its new lead vocalist, coinciding with the release of four original tracks now available on digital platforms.

The group, known for performing 1980s hits, 1990s tracks, and contemporary classics, launched “Meant to Be,” “Galaw,” “Idlip” and “T.H.A.L.” (short for “Tubig, Hangin, Apoy, Lupa”) during a media event last week.

Founder and keyboardist Attorney Rey Bergado said “Meant to Be” was written in 2016 but remained unreleased after the band went on hiatus in 2017. Efforts to record it with a former vocalist did not proceed. Marcelino, who had previously stepped in for live performances, later expressed interest in recording the song.

“In 2024, Patrick messaged me asking if he could have ‘Meant to Be’ as a birthday gift. I said yes, since we weren’t planning to use it. That’s how the recording happened,” Bergado said.

The band decided to bring in Marcelino full-time after the former vocalist formally exited the group.

“Since we had already recorded the songs, we thought we might as well use them for InnerVoices. It was really ‘meant to be,’” Bergado added.

Bergado said some of the songs were given to him by other composers, including “Galaw” by Glen and “Idlip” by Bob. He initially intended to release the tracks as solo works for Marcelino.

InnerVoices is composed of Bergado, Jojo Esparago (drums and percussion), Rene Tecson (lead guitar), Joseph Cruz (keyboard), and Ruben Tecson (drums).

Bergado also noted the contributions of younger bands in the local scene, such as Sunkissed Lola, Juan Karlos, BINI, XOXO, SB19, Lola Amour, and Hey June, alongside established acts like Eraserheads, Sandwich, Hale, Kamikazee, Mayonnaise, Side A, and Freestyle.
