Actress Janine Gutierrez paid tribute to her grandmother, Pilita Corrales, following the death of the iconic singer and entertainer. She was 85.
On Saturday, April 12, Janine took to her Instagram to confirm the passing of Asia’s Queen of Songs and honored her legacy both as a public figure and a family matriarch.
“It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved Mami and Mamita, Pilita Corrales,” wrote Janine.
“Pilita touched the lives of many, not only with her songs but also with her kindness and generosity,” she continued.
With a career spanning more than six decades, Pilita was celebrated for her powerful voice, signature Spanish-infused ballads, and her role in putting Filipino music on the international stage.
“She will be remembered for her contributions to the entertainment industry, but most of all for her love of life and family,” Janine added.
Pilita was often referred to as “Mamita” by her grandchildren. Janine, who has followed in her grandmother’s footsteps in the entertainment industry, has often spoken of Pilita’s influence and strength.
“Please join us with your prayers and kind thoughts as we celebrate her beautiful life,” she said.
The family has yet to release details regarding memorial services.
