Party-lists word war erupts over proclamation row

Kabataan party-list Rep. Raoul Manuel slammed the threats of the Duterte Youth group to reveal alleged corruption in government, claiming it was “self-serving” and the timing suspicious.

“If they knew something about corruption, why didn’t they come up with it earlier?” Manuel said in a social media post.

Manuel’s observation came a day after Duterte Youth party-list chairman Ronald Gian Carlo Cardema issued a stern warning that if Commission on Elections (Comelec) denied them a seat in Congress, he would expose alleged irregularities involving Congress and the Comelec.

“As long as they can hold on to office, they can put aside the corruption that is killing the future of the Filipino youth. They cheat even the Duterte supporters with their fake advocacies,” Cardema added.

“We exposed the scandal on Sara’s (Vice President Sara Duterte) confidential funds, Marcos’ royal investment scam, and other forms of pork, without asking for anything in return, because our loyalty is to the people, not to any politician. This is true patriotism. This should be the example we show to the youth,” he pointed out.

Cardema on Tuesday filed a petition seeking a temporary restraining order (TRO) against the Comelec’s decision to suspend his group’s proclamation.

He charged that there was “grave abuse of discretion” by the Comelec when his group was informed that they were not included in the proclamation of winning party-lists shortly before the proclamation ceremony was held on Monday.
