Local leaders of the municipality of San Pascual in Batangas, including former political rivals, came together to support the candidacy of former Mayor Roanna Conti.
During Friday’s event, the camp of Conti, who is seeking to return to the local post anew, was united with that of Mayor Tony Dimayuga and Rep. Raneo Abu.
Sangguniang Panlalawigan member Arlene Magboo also expressed support to the mayoralty bid of Conti.
Political analysts have observed that this kind of unification is rare in Philippine politics.
“San Pascual has shown it can be done – that leadership could be not just about power but about the greater good,” one analyst said.
Conti earlier vowed to implement permanent solutions instead of band aid “ayuda” to the problems besetting the people of San Pascual.
