At least 4,125 inmates from various prisons and penal farms across the country are qualified to vote for the elections on May 12, the Bureau of Corrections said Friday.
BuCor Director General Gregorio Catapang Jr. ordered all superintendents to ensure the orderly conduct of the polls.
Of the total number of inmates who may vote on Monday, 2,135 are detained at the New Bilibid Prison.
Some 924 are detained at the Davao Prison and Penal Farm, 421 at the Leyte Regional Prison, 290 at the San Ramon Prison and Penal Farm, and 140 at the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm.
At least 123 female inmates are confined at the Correctional Institution for Women in Mandaluyong City and 92 at the CIW-Mindanao.
Catapang earlier said the bureau signed an agreement with the Commission on Elections, the Public Attorney’s Office and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology to ensure an inclusive voting environment for inmates.
Qualified inmates who are allowed to register and vote include: those confined in jail or formally charged for any crime and are awaiting or undergoing trial and those serving a sentence of imprisonment for less than one year.
