Marcos urges OFWs to participate in 2025 elections through online voting

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Thursday called on overseas Filipinos to participate in the upcoming midterm elections through the Commission on Elections’ (Comelec) Online Voting and Counting System (OVCS), saying the new system makes voting more accessible and secure for voters abroad.

In a video message released on Thursday, the President encouraged eligible overseas Filipino voters to seize the opportunity to join the democratic process.

“Overseas voting for the 2025 elections is ongoing. This is your chance to take part in shaping our nation’s future,” Mr. Marcos said.

“Now, voting is easier. Wherever you are in the world, there’s no need to queue up or travel. Through online voting, you can express your voice quickly, safely, and efficiently,” he added.

The President also urged voters to be deliberate and thoughtful in choosing their leaders and lawmakers.

“Let us exercise this right. Let us choose candidates who are compassionate, capable, and principled. Through the right choices, we can build a New Philippines together,” Marcos said.

His message follows the Comelec’s approval of a three-day extension of the OVCS enrollment period, moving the deadline from May 7 to 11:59 p.m. on May 10. The extension aims to accommodate requests from Filipino communities overseas and encourage greater participation.
