President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. distanced himself from the impeachment case against Vice President Sara Duterte, saying the process belongs entirely to the House of Representatives and the Senate.
“All impeachment processes are within the legislature. That’s between Congress and the Senate,” Mr. Marcos said in a podcast interview released on Saturday.
“To put it bluntly, I have no role in the impeachment,” he added.
The President’s remarks come amid public debate and speculation that the delay in impeachment proceedings, widely seen as politically sensitive, may be influenced by personal or political interests—possibly even from Malacañang.
“I’m busy with transportation, with rice, with all the different things that we’re doing. My time is completely consumed there,” Marcos said.
Responding to questions that he has a “say” on the impeachment trial, the chief executive downplayed any suggestions of presidential sway.
“They say the President always has a say in these decisions. Maybe, if the President chooses to… But I choose not to,” Marcos said.
