The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) on Tuesday appealed to Filipinos set to travel to Israel, Jordan, or Iran to postpone their plans amid the escalating conflict surrounding the said countries.
“For those who are about to leave, our advice for those whose destinations are Israel, Jordan, and Iran is to think it over first. Do not continue for now due to the situation there,” Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac said in Filipino.
He likewise advised overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) currently in any of the three nations to stay safe.
“Stay safe for the OFWs who are there. Stay safe, stay in an area where you are able to access a bomb shelter, whether it’s a private home bomb shelter or a public municipal shelter,” Cacdac said.
“For those who are about to… or still there, we also have advice not to indulge in passing on, endorsing, or creating misinformation or fake news. So be careful also in that aspect. Especially types of information that will tend to aggravate or set off unnecessary alarms from within the Filipino community in Israel,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Philippine Embassy in Tehran is coordinating with diplomats from Azerbaijan, Turkey, and Turkmenistan regarding possible land routes if Iran’s situation worsens and Filipinos must evacuate.
Philippine Ambassador to Iran Roberto Manalo has since talked with the said countries’ missions in Tehran in line with the embassy’s contingency plan.
